The Palmer City Ale House in Palmer Alaska. We had heard so much about it. How it was a fantastic local hangout for great food and fun. Nothing we heard prepared us for this amazing place. Not sure why it took us so long to get around to paying this place a visit but let’s just say it was worth the wait! My husband and I thought we would get there early. Well, it was not quite 5:30 PM on a Friday evening in April when we pulled up. The line of cars lined up for a block on each side of the street, and a packed parking lot gave us a clue of just how crazy busy this place is. No matter! We went in and the place was standing room only. Completely packed with people! We got on the waiting list. They do it right. They take your phone number and text you when your table is ready. We were just two people, so we got our text only 10 minutes after we got there letting us know they were ready to seat us. But we had some good friends that came after we did. They were a group of 4. Their wait was 45 minutes. There is an epiphany here. The larger your group the longer your wait will be. Plan on getting there early, or just be patient, grab a beer while you are waiting, and enjoy the atmosphere. The long wait means something is definitely very special about this place. People just don’t leave this place when they are informed of a long wait. They wait! After we got seated a great waiter came by, got our drink order, and talked to us for a bit. Less than 5 minutes our drinks were in front of us, and he was taking our order. I must tell you. As busy as this place was, we figured it would take a long time to get our dinners. In less than 15 minutes our steaming hot dinners were set in front of us and the challenge began of trying to eat it all. I had the Ahi Tacos; my husband had the Mushroom burger. Huge servings! We had some friends we knew were there, they came and talked to us while they were waiting, making it even more fun. All in all, I would have to describe this place as glorious chaos. Its loud, busy, the smells of food cooking, the atmosphere, the people, the décor, the drinks, just everything about this place makes it the number 1 hot spot in Palmer Alaska. I HIGHLY recommend this place! I would go as far as to say if you don’t visit another restaurant while visiting Palmer, just make sure you visit this one. You will not be disappointed!
